                                                            Problem:                   Find the least common multiple of 8 and 72.

Solution                    List the prime factors of each.

                                                            Solution                    Multiply each factor the greatest number of times it occurs in any of the numbers.

Step 3:                        72 have three 2s and two 3s. This gives us 72, the smallest number that can be divided

evenly by 8, 72 is 72

          

                                                            Solution                    The answer is: 72

                                                                                                Find the greatest common factor of 14 and 44.

 

List the prime factors of each.

 

14:2X7

44:2x2x11

 

The product of the multiples which are common in both the numbers becomes the greatest common factor of the given numbers, i.e. 2.

 

Answer: The Greatest Common Factor of 14, 44 is 2
