Problem:                   There are 45 teachers students at one school. 1/5 are female. How

many teachers are male? 

Solution                    Read the problem carefully

Step 1:                                   

Solution                    Multiply the total number by the fraction to get total number of females.

Step 2:       45 x 1/5 = 9 females

Subtract the number of females from the total to get the number of males.

45-9= 36 males

Solution                    The answer is:  36 males
