Rounding Tens to Thousands |
Lesson 1 |
Problem: |
Round the numbers to the nearest tens - 36 |
Solution |
When you are rounding you are converting a number into an easier number to work with. When rounding always ask yourself if the number is 5 or more you increase the number to the left by one and drop all numbers to the right to zero. Here are some examples: |
Solution |
Round 26 to the nearest ten. Look at the number to the right of the tens (6). If the number is 5 or more, then the numbers to be rounded increases by one and all numbers to the right become zero. |
Solution |
The number to the right of the tens is 6 the tens increases by one. The 2 becomes a 3 and the 6 becomes zero. 26 rounded to the nearest ten is 30. |
Solution |
Round 24 to the nearest ten.
The number to the right of the tens is 4, this number becomes zero. Since 4 is less than 5 the tens digit remains the same 2 and the 4 becomes zero. 24 rounded to the nearest ten is 20 Than 36 must be rounded to 40 40 is the answer. |
