Problem:	Two times a number plus seven is thirteen.
Solution Step 1:	Let x represent the number
Solution Step 2:	Two times a number 2x
Solution Step 3:	Plus seven + 7
Solution Step 4:	Is thirteen = 13
Solution Step 5:	Solve 2x + 7 = 13 2x = 6 x = 3

Try two practice problems:

Five times a number plus two is forty two.

Seven times a number minus five is thirty seven.
