Exponents To Numbers Worksheet

                    Lesson 1

Exponential notation is used when the number is multiplied repeatedly.

The number being multiplied is called the base and the exponent tells how many times

the base is multiplied by itself.

Problem:                   Convert the number to exponential form.

5 x 5 x 5 x 5 x 5

Step 1:                    The base is 5 the exponent is 5

Step 2:                    It can be written as 55

Step 3:                    The answer is:  3125

Compare the exponents (5/3)³ ____ (7/3)²

Evaluating (5/3)³= 5/3 x 5/3 x 5/3= 4.62

Evaluating (7/3)²= 7/3 x 7/3 = 5.44

Comparing both 4.62 and 5.44 we get 4.62 < 5.44

Hence (5/3)³ < (7/3)²

                                                            Try two practice problems:

Convert the number to exponential form.

A.  3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3

B.   -4 x -4 x -4 x -4
