                                                            Problem:                   There are 45 trucks in a factory. 1/5 are old. How many trucks are new? 

 

                                                            Solution                    Read the problem carefully

Step 1:                                   

                                      

Solution                    Multiply the total number by the fraction to get total number of old trucks.

Step 2:                                    45 x 1/5 = 9

                                                                                                                                Subtract the number of old trucks from the total to get the number of new trucks.

                                                                                                            45-9= 36

 

                                                             Solution                    The answer is:  36
