The Pythagorean Theorem

                    Lesson 1

Problem:                   Find the third side of given triangle, the other two sides are 5 and 3.

Solution                    Here we have AB = 5 and BC = 3

Step 1:  

Solution Using the Pythagorean Theorem

Step 2:                                    AB² + BC² = AC²

Solution  Replacing value AB with 4 and BC with 3 in above formula we have:

Step 3: AB² + BC² = AC²

                                                                                      (5)²  + (3)² = (x)²

                                                                                       (x)² = (5)² + (3)²= 25 + 9 = 34

                                         x= √34 = 5.83        

                                                            Solution                    The answer is: 5.83
