Algebraic Solutions To Simultaneous Equations

                     Lesson 1

Problem:                   Solve and check: x + y = 4, x – y = 2

Step 1: Subtract the second equation from the first:

Solution Find value of y; 2y = 10; y = 10/2 = 5

Solution Insert the value of y into the equation and find the value of x:

x + 5 = 15; x = 15 - 5 = 10

                                                            Solution                     The answer is:  x = 10, y = 5
