Area and Coordinate Geometry

                     Lesson 1

Problem:   Find the area of given figures

Solution    Draw the smallest "box" possible which will enclose the triangle

Step 1:        making sure the "box" follows the grids of the graph paper.

Solution     Number each of the parts of the box with a Roman numeral

 Step 2:     

Solution     The area of each of the parts added together equals the area of the "box".                 

 Step 3:    

                                                             Solution      A _box = A_| + A_Ⅱ + A_Ⅲ + A_Ⅳ + A_v

 Step 4:     72 = 4+6+32+x+8

x = 22

Solution      Answer: 22 square units

 Step 5:
