Find The Intercepts |
|
Lesson 1 |
An intercept is a point where a line meets an axis.
The x-intercept is the point where the line meets the x-axis.
The y-intercept is the point where the line meets the y-axis.
Problem: Find the x and y intercepts of the line.
2y = x + 8
Step 1: An equation has two intercepts:
Solution x-intercept, Point at x-axis where y is 0; x + 8 = 0; x = -8
Step 2:
Solution y-intercept, Point at y-axis where x is 0; 2y = 0 + 8; y = 4
Step 3:
Solution The answer is: -8, 4
Step 4:
Complete
Try two practice problems: Find the x and y intercepts of the line.
