Problem:   What type of function is graphed below?

Solution     Exponential functions have variable x as an exponent

Step 1:         defined by the equation: y = a^x

Solution      As the base value gets larger,

Step 2:          the graph becomes steep and appears to stretch upwards.

                                                                                  As the base value a gets closer to 1, the graph becomes flat.

                                                                                  A value of 1 results in a horizontal straight line.                              

Solution      If the base value a (value a) is between 0 and 1,

Step 3:          the graph appears to have reflected itself over the y-axis.
