Problem:  Find the area of the given figure:

Step 1: The base is given by subtracting the x co-ordinates of two points.
6 – 3 = 3
 
Step 2: Altitude is given by subtracting the y coordinates of two points.
5 – 2 = 3
Step 3: The area is given by: ½ x base x height.
½ x 3 x3 = 4.5
The answer is:  4.5
