System Of Iinear Inequalities

                     Lesson 1

Problem:      y > x - 5 and y > 7x - 5 

Solution       Put “=” in place of “<” :

                                                            Step 1:                         

Solution        y = x - 5 and y > 7x - 5

Step 2:         

Solution        Assume values for x and find the value for y.

Step 3:  

                                                            Solution  Show all three points (x, y) on the graph.

Step 4:            Draw line solid if the inequality is < or >

                                                            Solution       If the point makes the inequality true, shade that side of the        line. 

Step 5:           If the point does not make the inequality true,

Complete     shade the  opposite side of the line.

                                                            Try two practice problems:  

A.

y < 5x + 7 y > 7x + 5

B.

y > 2x - 3 y > 9x + 5
